Over the past few years, the Art Factory, in partnership with the Augusta Utilities Department, completed a three phase mural project. The project served to beautify the walls of the Highland Avenue Water Department located at the corner of Highland Avenue and Wrightsboro Road. The project involved many members of the Augusta Community. This community project was designed to beautify the walls of the Water Treatment Facility, educate our community, and provide artists and students with an opportunity to exhibit their work.
Phase I – Highland Avenue Wall A mural of the Savannah River traveling from the mountains to the sea, painted by artists Richard Worth, Russ Bonin, and Raoul Pacheco.
Phase II -Wrightsboro Road Wall This phase of the project was open to design submissions focusing on the theme of “Water.” Six CSRA artists were chosen for the project which began in February 2010. The artists who were selected to paint the murals were Cyndy Epps, Leonard Zimmerman Jr., Brian Stewart, Stephen Krecskay, Joseph Hart, and Stephen Snyder.
Phase III – Iris Street This wall is a working wall for students to discover the art of mural painting. Current mural projects were designed and painted by teens from the Boys & Girls Clubs, first offenders from the Department of Juvenile Justice, and students from Augusta State University.
The mission of The Art Factory is to provide the children of the Augusta community with high quality fine arts educational experiences that also promote the development of positive life skills. |
